Note to John Barrymore, written on the cover of THE TATLER(23 Oct. 1929 issue) which pictures John Barrymore with Winston Churchill, c. 1929.

It appears that Beerbohm has touched up the cover photo with pencil to give a somewhat disreputable air to both men. His note chides Barrymore as being an "ill-hosier'd wrong-un, " while Churchill "surely hasn't become a butler and been discharged for drunkenness and theft, so that he is more a penitent in mufti, vainly seeking, without a 'character, ' a situation in some decent household?"
